  • LSP overhauls site ahead of holidays

    The Linguistic Society of the Philippines has just refreshed the look of its one-year-old website by making it sleeker and more modern. Here are some of the changes you can expect: In place of the log-in tab, a marquee for urgent announcements has been introduced. The site font was updated. Official announcements from the Society will have one uniform template. The same goes for PJL and LSP-NCGM announcements. PJL has just slightly updated its logo, so if you have a keen eye, you will observe it.

    Announcement: Those who have not submitted their abstracts for the 2017 LSP-NCGM conference to be held in Far Eastern University in Manila may still submit until December 15, 2016, the new deadline for submissions.

  • LSP and FEU ink partnership for 2017 conference

    Last August 2, 2016, the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for the LSP National Conference and General Meeting in 2017 (2017 LSP-NCGM) to be held at FEU-Manila was signed between the Linguistic Society of the Philippines (LSP) and the Far Eastern University (FEU). LSP Board Members, FEU Academic Managers and FEU English faculty attended the ceremony while Media Center covered the event. The aforementioned conference themed "Nurturing Literacy and Learning through Language Research" will take place from April 6 to 8, 2017 at FEU in Manila.     The Linguistic Society of the Philippines (LSP) is a proud affiliate of AILA (Association Internationale de Linguistique Appliquée) otherwise known as the International Association of Applied Linguistics. AILA (originally founded in 1964 in France) is an international federation of national and regional associations of Applied Linguistics.   • LSP Report: Q1 membership figures spike after application process revamp

    (MANILA-PHILIPPINES) 2016 membership figures of the Linguistic Society of the Philippines (LSP) reached a whopping 298 at the end of the 1st quarter of the LSP fiscal year compared to last year's 320 for Q4. The breakdown is as follows: regular members, 51; student members, 59; institutional members from 5 institutions, 25; lifetime members, additional 15 to the existing 128, and installment scheme-based lifetime members, 16. The incremental increase can be seen as a result of the refinements done in the application process, particularly the shift from paper-based to online-based registration. "I am so impressed with the quick application process as well as the new LSP certificate with LUMIC (LSP Unified Membership Identification Code)," praised a member. With the exception of Lifetime Memberships, all confirmed 2016 memberships will be valid from April 1, 2016 to March 31, 2017 regardless of date of application within the fiscal year.

    The potent source of literacy emanates not only from learner’s meaningful experiences in a formal language instruction, but also from the ‘world’ where the ‘words’ are contextualized for better understanding. Nurturing literacy and learning a language could be more responsive when classroom practitioners are equip with helpful information through language research. In response to learner’s challenges of encoding, decoding, and reproducing a language, an ingrained passion for language research aids effective instruction in an ever complex and diverse language classroom and beyond.   • Final 2016 LSP-NCGM program available now

    The final conference program for the 2016 LSP-NCGM is now downloadable. Presenters and registrants are encouraged to download a personal copy of it from the conference site. Registrants are also encouraged to bring their receipts/email confirmation as well as their LSP membership certificates with LUMIC for convenience. The 2016 LSP-NCGM is an annual event hosted by the Society in cooperation with another academic institution in the Philippines. This year, Silliman University will be hosting the said event.

  • Requests now made easier as LSP introduces GRF and RTS

    The Linguistic Society of the Philippines is giving everyone an early Christmas gift today by specifically allocating a section in the website for requests. As part of its goals to provide quality service and support for its members, the Society accepts requests of the following nature: PJL PASSWORD REQUEST: I'd like to receive the password for an issue of the Philippine Journal of Linguistics. CERTIFICATION/DOCUMENT REQUEST: I'd like to request a document/certificate/receipt. LSP MEM. CORRECTION/UPDATE: I'd like to make some corrections/updates regarding my membership info. LSP MEM. VERIFICATION: I'm cannot find my info in the database. PAYMENT DEADLINE EXTENSION: I'd like to request an extension for payment (membership, conference, etc.) OTHERS: I have a special request not mentioned above. Interested members may fill out the General Request Form (GRF) first. The Society also launched a new system, the Request Tracking System (RTS) in parallel to the aforementioned.
